Meninges and CSF Flashcards
What covers the CSF to separate it from the body?
The meninges
What are the three layers of the meninges?
The pia mater, arachnoid mater and dura mater
What fluid is within the meninges?
The CSF
What is the combined function of the CSF and meninges?
To cushion and protect the brain
What produces CSF?
The chlorid plexus
Where does the chloroid plexus secrete stuff into?
Ventricles
What is higher concentrated in the CSF than blood?
Na+, Cl- and Mg ions
At what points is CSF reabsorbed into the venous circulation?
Arachnoid granulations
What are the ventricles?
spaces within the brain linked by passageways called aqueducts that allow CSF to circulate.
What order does the CSF flow in?
lateral ventricles-interventricular foramina-third ventricles-cerebral aqueduct-fourth evntrucle- medial lateral apertures and the central canal
