Meninges Flashcards
How many layers of the dura mater are there?
- outer periosteal and inner meningeal
Meningeal arteries are present in which layer of the dura mater?
Outer periosteal
What type of structures do the two layers of dura mater form?
Dural partitions and Dural venous sinuses
How many dural partitions are there? Name them
- Falx cerebri, Tentorium cerebelli, Falx cerebelli, and Diaphragma sellae
What is the arterial supply of dura mater?
Anterior meningeal artery, Middle and accessory meningeal artery, and posterior meningeal artery.
What artery does the anterior meningeal artery arise from?
Ethmoidal artery
What artery does the middle meningeal artery arise from?
Maxillary artery
How many branches does the middle meningeal artery give and which one runs underneath pterion?
- anterior branch and posterior branch. Anterior branch runs over pterion
What artery does the posterior meningeal artery arise from?
it’s the terminal branch of ascending pharyngeal artery, enters through jugular foramen.
Describe the innervation of dura mater
CN V I, II, III, CNX, and the first, second and sometimes third cervical nerves.
Where is CSF made?
Choroid plexus in ventricles
Where is CSF absorbed?
Arachnoid granulations which drain into superior sagittal sinus
What is the foramen between lateral and thrid ventricle called?
Foramen of Monro
What connects the third and fourth ventricle?
Cerebral aqueduct or aqueduct of sylvius
From what foramens does the CSf pass from fourth ventricle into subarachnoid space?
Foramen of Magendie and Luschka
