Q

What are the assumptions of the Hardy-Weinberg model?

A
  1. No selection - individuals of all genotypes have equal rates of survival and equal reproductive success
  2. No mutation - no new alleles are created or converted into another by mutation
  3. no migration - no alleles leave the population
  4. the population infinitely large so that sampling effects and other random errors are negligible
  5. individuals in a population mate randomly

Q

Why would there still be cystic fibrosis in the population, if all cystic fibrosis suffered had no children?

A

Because of carriers
the incidence of heterozygote carriers is larger than homozygous individuals
- you would have to get rid of all the carriers and the all the sufferers
