Mendelian Inheritance Flashcards
1
Q
Autosomal dominant
A
Dominant; each child has a 50% chance of inheriting the mutation, there are no skipped generations as you only need one mutated gene. Equally transmitted by men and women. Male to male transmission.
2
Q
X-Linked
A
Generally only effects males due to only one X chromosome. Women can be carriers as 2 X chromosomes present. Can skip generations with no male to male transmission.
3
Q
Autosomal recessive
A
Recessive; two copies of an abnormal gene must be present in order for the disease/trait to develop. Carrier state possible. 2 carrier parents; 25% chance of disorder or normality and 50% chance of a carrier child.
