- Sense of failure created by the breadwinner ideal,
- Because the work is deskilled it is also dehumanizing, and taking anger out on women

try to get men to quit drinking all together or to temper alcohol consumption •Middleclass people looking down on working class women, trying to tell them how to run their lives •Women played a key role in the abolitionist women, and women take a lot of revolutionary inspiration and they perceive temperance as the “new cause”
