Memory Items, Limitations, Etc. Flashcards
What engine is in the AC50?
LYCOMING IO-540-B1A5
(B1A5 flavor or IO-540)
What are the engine’s max BHP?
Max BHP? 290 per side
What is the total fuel capacity in US gallons of the AC50?
Total:156 gal (936 #’s)
Unusable: 3.6 gal (22 #’s)
When should the boost pumps be used?
Priming, takeoff, landing, and if an engine-driven fuel pump fails.
Your right engine is shut down; how do you get fuel from the right tank to the left engine?
The Aero Commander has a single point of fueling, and is a gravity fed system. In the event of engine loss, the boost pump for the operational engine should be turned ON as a precaution.
What happens if you lose a hydraulic pump?
The Aero Commander has two engine driven hydraulic pumps for operation of the flaps, landing gear, and brakes; along with an aux electric pump for brake operation during engine starting. In the event one pump fails, it’s unlikely the pilot will have an indication of the failure.
Will you have braking authority with a hydraulic leak or line rupture?
In the event of a main hydraulic line rupture, a check valve will stop the loss of hydraulic fluid to the braking system. The only immediately apparent issue will be that the nose gear will fall since it is held up with hydraulic pressure alone and the red uplock light will extinguish. If the flaps are extended and the hydraulic pressure gage falls to the aux levels of 470-600 PSI, the pilot knows they will only have hydraulic pressure for braking.
What happens if the hydraulic leak is from a brake line?
If the rupture occurs in a brake line, a complete hydraulic failure has occurred and there will be no hydraulic pressure for braking or the flaps.
Max takeoff weight (MTOW):
6750 lbs.
Max landing weight:
6750 lbs.
What is the max zero fuel weight?
Maximum certified takeoff weight prior to fuel being added
What is the emergency gear extension procedure and any associated airspeed limitations?
-Slow to between 95-100 mph
-Landing gear lever => DOWN
-Check landing gear position indicators are green
-Flaps up landing recommended airspeed is 85 mph
Define critical engine, does the AC50 have one?
The critical engine is the engine that, if lost, will produce the most adverse effects to performance. Due to several factors, if both engines are clockwise rotating engines, the left engine would be critical. The commander is a conventional twin with two clockwise rotating engines; therefore, the left engine is critical.
Describe the procedure for an engine fire in cruise:
