Q

When Windshear Activity Is Known Or Suspected

At departure airport:

At arrival airport:

A

At departure airport:
• Delay the take-off until conditions are favorable.
• Use the longest and most favorable runway available.
• Select the minimum flap setting acceptable for the field length available.
• Use full take-off thrust (no derate or flex).
• Monitor the IAS during the take-off roll.

At arrival airport:
• Delay the approach until conditions are favorable or divert to another airport.
• Use the longest and most favorable runway available.
• Add an appropriate wind correction to the final approach speed.
• Fly a normal approach and consider using the autopilot and autothrottle to allow for more monitoring and recognition time.
• Do not make large thrust reductions or trim changes to correct rapid increases in airspeed for they could vary from an increase to a decrease in a very short time.
• If there is a significant reduction or increase in rate of descent, consider a go-around.

  • Apply thrust as required
  • Ensure spoilers are retracted

————• Confirm AP and AT disconnected
————• Monitor / call altitude and speed trends
————• Confirm spoilers retracted

TAWS WARNING

A

• Call “FIREWALL”.
• Disengage Autopilot.
• Disconnect Autothrottle.
• Advance Thrust Levers to maximum thrust
• Immediately initiate a pull up and roll wings level Note: A momentary exceedance of EGT can occur
• Ensure spoilers are retracted
• Climb at best climb angle, respecting stick shaker
-Note: Maintaining sidestick at the aft soft stop
establishes the best climb angle
• Maintain configuration until ground contact no longer a factor

——————• Verify all actions have been completed and call out any omissions
——————-• Monitor vertical speed and altitude (radio altitude for terrain clearance and barometric altitude for a minimum safe altitude).
——————• Call out any trend toward terrain contact

——————• Call “CLEAR OF WARNING”

  • When clear of the terrain, slowly decrease pitch attitude and accelerate.
  • Call for configuration changes and re-engage automation as required.

——————• Configure as requested by PF

Upset Recovery - Nose Low

A
  • Disengage Autopilot
  • Disconnect Autothrottle
  • Recover from stall if required
    • Roll in the shortest direction to wings level (unload and roll if bank angle is more than 90°)

————• Call out attitude, airspeed, and altitude throughout the recovery.

Recover to level flight:
• Apply nose up elevator
• Adjust thrust and drag as required

————• Call out attitude, airspeed, and altitude throughout the recovery.

Complete the recovery:
• When approaching the horizon, roll to wings level
• Check airspeed and adjust thrust
• Establish pitch attitude

————• Verify all required actions have been completed and call out any omissions

CREW INCAPACITATION

A
  • assume control of the aircraft and ensure a safe flight profile is maintained;
  • autopilot shall be engaged; and
  • request the flight attendants
(or a flight deck observer seat occupant) to assist. If a PA announcement is
required to alert the cabin crew, the Urgent Communication Procedure shall
    be employed; and
  • When the aircraft is established at a safe altitude, in a safe configuration, the
non-incapacitated flight crew member, with assistance, should:
    • Tilt the incapacitated flight crew member’s seat back; and
    • Move the seat full aft and move the rudder pedals full forward; and
    • Move the incapacitated flight crew member’s head back; and
    • Use the incapacitated flight crew member’s shoulder harness as a
    restraint; and
  • When practicable, remove the incapacitated flight crew member from the
seat and replace, if possible, with another flight crew member.

When a flight crew member requires the continuous use of medical oxygen
the flight shall land at the nearest suitable airport.
