  1. Exit the volcanic ash as quickly as possible. Consider 180 degree turn. Consider a descending turn.
  2. Autothrottle disconnect switch…Push
  3. Thrust levers (both)…Idle (if conditions allow)
  4. Don oxygen masks and smoke goggles if needed.
  5. Establish crew communications, if needed.

    Choose one:
    • If clearance, proceed, or
    • If no timely clearance, turn 45° away for 15nm offset
      Climb or descend 500ft when passing 10nm offset
