What kind of memory is read only memory?
Permanent memory on motherboard.
Holds essential data used in boot-up including boot sequence, date and time.
What kind of memory is dynamic random access memory?
Temporary memory slotted into motherboard.
Holds data while the processor is working.
What kind of storage is hard disk drive?
Permanent storage connected to motherboard or external through USB.
Uses magnetic disk where binary data is stored as positive or negative + read/write head.
What kind of storage is solid state drive?
Permanent storage connected to motherboard or external.
Uses flash memory with transistors which remember by being turned on or turned off to represent binary.
What kind of storage is optical?
Permanent storage drives at front of case or external.
Data is burnt to CDs/DVDs as a pattern of dots to represent binary, which can be read by a light beam such as a laser.
Which is the difference between temporary and permanent?
Memory, such as RAM (DRAM) in PCs and laptops, is temporary because the data that is stored is deleted when the device is turned off.
Storage, such as HDD and SSD, is permanent because when the device is turned off the data remains saved.
What is the difference between SRAM and DRAM
DRAM is Dynamic RAM and is used in PCs and laptops.
SRAM is Static RAM (aka flash memory) and is used in mobile devices such as smartphones, digital cameras and tablets.
