What does a lesion to the MD nucleus of the thalamus cause?

A

Anterograde amnesia similar to lesion to the mammillary body in Korsakoff’s syndrome (which can cause the MD thalamus lesion from thiamine deficiency)

  • MD projection to frontal cortex important for working memory/planning/problem solving

A

Sudden onset of anterograde amnesia for short period of time with retrograde amnesia since the traumatic event that caused the disorder (cerebral ischemia, concussion, physical stress, drugs)
