Memory and emotion - working memory model Flashcards
1
Q
Working memory
A
- Baddeley & Hitch (1974) challenged the idea that the STM is a single-store
- Working memory refers to the system temporarily maintaining mental representations that are relevant to the performance of a cognitive task in an active/attentive state.

Q
Phonological Loop
A
- The inner voice

- Also used to hold what we are preparing to speak loud

Q
Central Executive
A
- Is “In charge” (by controlling attention) of the other three components.
- Has limited compacity and deals with any cognitively demanding tasks
- It is modality free đ
- Has the capacity to coordinate performance on two separate tasks and attend selectively to one input while inhibiting others

Q
Visuospatial sketchpad
A
- the ‘inner eye’
- It deals with the rehearsal of visual and/or spatial information
- suggest that it has two components:
- Visual cache: stores information about visual form and color
- Inner scribe: deals with spatial and movement information and is involved in the panning and execution of body/limb movements
