Q

What is Washout and Washin?

A

Washin (crease) is where the angle of incidence increases from wing root to wing tip,

Washout is the opposite, angle of incidence at wing tip is less than at wing root.

Result is wing stalls at root first, giving aileron control in the event of a stall.

Q

Differentiate between normal turn, slipping turn and skidding turn

A

Normal turn => Horizontal lift = centrifugal force

Slip turn => Horizontal lift is greater than centrifugal force

Skidding turn => Horizontal force is less than centrifugal force

(To remember )

Slip (aircraft) skidding

side with word is greater force ( hori vs centrif)

Q

What is the Keel Effect?

A

Keel Effect
If an aircraft begins to sideslip, all of the keel surface above the centre of gravity will be presented to the relative airflow which will give a force to help in correcting the roll.
