What is RAM
A
volatile, read and write. Purpose: to store instructions of current executing instructions and their data E.g. applications and the operating system in use.

What is ROM
A
Non-volatile read only. Purpose: stores instructions for starting the computer called the bootstrap.

virtual memory
A
using part of the hard disk as if it were random access memory.
allows more applications to be open than the physical memory could.

flash memory
A
solid state, no moving parts. Robust. Used to store BIOS.
