Memory Flashcards
Encoding
Changing information into a different form to help to memorise it better.
What are the three types of encoding?
Or the way info enters the brain
Visual, acoustic and semantic.
Storage
Retention of info in our memory, temporarily or permanently.
Retrieval
The ability to recover info from our memory stores,
What are the two types of retrieval?
Recall- Recovering and reproducing information
Recognition- Identifying something as being familiar to you
What are the two types of memory?
What are the differences in capacity, duration and encoding between them?
Short term and long term.
STM: 5-9 things, 30 seconds or less, acoustically.
LTM: Unknown, lifetime beyond 2/3 years old, semantically.
