memory Flashcards
what is recall
the action of retrieving information that is not currently in conscious awareness
Identifying items previously learned
Recognition
what are the 3 memory models
encoding, storage,retrieval
whats the function of sensory memory storage
holds sensory(visual or auditory) memory that lasts between 0.5-4 seconds.
what is short term memory responsible for
holding information temorarily for analysis, usually u to 30s between 5-9 items
long term memory
relativly permanment storage
what is the order of stimulus passing through different memory.
first to sensory memory, then it is encoded and send to short-term memory and then encoded again then sent to long-term memory. When we need that information again, information will be retrieved from the long-term memory to short term memory for use. Any information that is not transfered in any stage will be lost.
Mnemonics
the use of vivid imagery to help to remeber things
Maintenance rehearsal
Repeating information over and over to maintain
it in short-term memory
long term memory are split into
explicit (memory with conciouse recall) and implicit (memory without conscious recall like muscle memory) memory
Sequence Effects
wherer you tends to remeber the first and last few things on a list
Retrograde amnesia
inability to remeber things surrounding an event. for example during a carcrash
Anterograde amnesia
Inability to form new memories
