What was Baddeley’s research into the memory coding (AO1) ?
He found that immediate recall was worse with acoustically similar words, STM is acoustic. Also, found that recall after 20 minutes worse with semantically similar words, LTM is semantic.
What was Jacob’s research into memory capacity (AO1) ?
His test consisted of the researcher reading out four digits and then increasing the amount until the participant cannot recall the order correctly. He found that, on average participants could repeat back 9.3 numbers and 7.3 letters in the correct order immediately after they were presented. The memory’s capacity was 5 -/+ 2.
What was Peterson and Peterson’s research into memory duration (AO1)?
He investigated this by giving 24 students a consonant syllable (e.g. YCG) to recall and a 3-digit number to count backwards from. The retention interval was varied : 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, or 18 seconds. He found that after 3 seconds - average recall was about 80%. After, 18 seconds it was about 3%. STM duration without rehearsal is about 18 seconds.
