Membrane Transport Mechanism 2 Flashcards
Methods of molecular movement
a. Molecules “defuse” among other molecules. It is an entirely random movement constituted of collisions that transfers kinetic energy from on to another. b. Diffusion goes from high concentration of particles to low.
Describe osmotic forces
a. Osmosis is the movement of solvent from high concentration to low concentration. b. Force created by Osmosis is the Osmotic Pressure c. Osmotic pressure is the movement of solvent(water) across a membrane causing physical pressure from gravity onto the membrane.
Osmotic Pressure Equation
Mechanisms used by substances to cross cellular membranes.
Simple diffusion, facilitated diffusion, and Active Transport
Difference Between Simple diffusion and facilitated diffusion.
both use a gradient to move from one side of the membrane to the other. Facilitated diffusion specifically uses a protein (carrier) designed for irregular molecules. Simple diffusion uses a channel protein.
Equation for measurement of Diffusion.
