Grace Note
Ornament -
an extra note added as an embellishment and not essential to the harmony or melody.
Trill
An Ornament - Rapid repetition between 2 notes.

The term used when a piece of music in the Minor Key unexpectedly ends on a Major chord.
Suspension
This effect occurs when a note from one chord is held over to the next chord creating a discord and is then resolved by moving one step to create a concord.

Notes which sound well together.
Dissonance
Notes which seem to clash when sounded together.
Passing Note
music a nonharmonic note through which a melody passes from one harmonic note to the next. Compare auxiliary note
Dotted Rhythm
A short not followed by a longer one
Alberti Bass
A type of bass part built on chords being split up into quaver type arpeggios
Ground Bass
A melody, sometimes up to eight bars in length, which is played throughout the bass part of a piece of music and over which the rest of the composition is built.
Inverted Pedal
The ‘opposite’ of a Pedal , a long sustained note in the top of or above a melody.
Obbligato
An essential part or decorative line written above the melody.
Through Composed
A piece of music or song which does not have a chorus repeat
Contrapuntal
Texture in which each of two or more parts has independent melodic interest; similar in meaning to polyphonic.
Baritone
A male voice with a range in between the Bass and Tenor voices.
Muted
using a device which reduces the volume or alters the sound of an instrument. Con sordino means with a mute. Senza sordino means without a mute.
Double Stopping
Listen to an excerpt of the playing two notes at the one time on an Orchestral string instrument such as a Violin or Viola.
Arco
With the bow, i.e.playing a violin or other string instrument.
Pizzicato
Plucking strings. the excerpt is of plucking strings on an Orchestral string instruments as they accompany voices.
Tremolando
Trembling, quivering.
Tremolo
Term for the rapid up-and-down movement of a bow on a stringed instrument creating a restless. agitated effect.
