Meiosis Review Flashcards
Steps of Meiosis
interphase
early prophase I
late prophase I
metaphase I
anaphase I
telophase I/ cytokinesis
prophase II
metaphase II
anaphase II
telophase II/cytokinesis
Interphase
uncondensed chromosomes replicated in parent cell
early prophase I
chromosomes condense, spindle apparatus forms, nuclear envelope begins to break down
synapsis(pairing) of homologous chromosomes (chromosomes smashed together and crossing over occurs)
Late prophase I
chiasmata (crossover points) visible, nuclear envelope broken down
metaphase I
movement of bivalent chromosomes to metaphase plate to complete; in middle of cell
anaphase I
homologous chromosomes separate and move to opposite poles of the spindle apparatus
telophase I
homologous are at opposite poles; spindle apparatus disassembles
cytokinesis occurs after, where cell divides and chromosome number is reduced
prophase II
spindle apparatus reforms
metaphase II
chromosomes are lined up at middle of the spindle apparatus (metaphase plate, middle of the cell)
anaphase II
sister chromatids separate, move to opposite poles of the spindle apparatus
telophase II
daughter chromosomes are at opposite poles; spindle apparatus disassembles
cytokinesis follows after where the cell divides and chromosome number is unchanged
