Meiosis And Mitosis Flashcards
1
Q
What is mitosis
A
2 identical daughter cells, chromosomes 46
2
Q
What is meiosis:
A
4 non identical daughter cells, half the amount of chromosomes 23
3
Q
What is the purpose of meiosis?
A
To increase genetic variation.
4
Q
Where does meiosis occur?
A
The testes and ovaries
5
Q
What is the purpose of mitosis?
A
Produces new individuals by asexual reproduction eg: cell repair and growth.
6
Q
What is the order of mitosis?
A
> prophase- the chromosomes condense and centrosomes move to opposite sides of the nucleus
metaphase- The chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell
anaphase- The nuclear envelope reforms around the two sets of chromosomes
telophase- and the cell divides into two daughter cells
