Meiosis Flashcards
Process of cell division in which gametes are formed and the number of chromosomes is halved.
Meiosis
Fertilized egg which has a diploid number of chromosomes.
Zygote
Chromosomes replicate. Two identical sister chromatids.
Interphase
Homologous chromosomes form a tetrad.
Prophase I
When 2 homologous chromosomes come together, and the 4 chromatids overlap respectively.
Tetrad
Homologous chromosomes line up together in pairs along the equator.
Metaphase I
Difference in mitosis is that homologous chromosomes line up independently.
Metaphase I
Spindle fibers attaches to the centromeres of each pair.
Anaphase I
Homologous chromosomes separate and move to opposite ends of the cell. One chromosome from each homologous pair.
Anaphase I
Centromeres did not split unlike in mitosis and meiosis II.
Anaphase I
Spindle fibers break down. Chromosomes uncoils. Cytoplasm divides. Another cell division is needed.
Telophase I
A new spindle forms around the chromosomes.
