meiosis Flashcards
1
Q
Interphase 1
A
- DNA copied as chromatin wrapped around histone proteins
- G1: Cellular contents are duplicating and grows in size
- S: chromosomes are duplicating
- G2: DNA Polymerase proof reads chromosomes
2
Q
Prophase 1
A
- Genetic material is condensed into chromosomes
- Spindle fibres form around cell
- Synapsis occurs, homologous pairing of chromosomes
- Crossing over may occur, exchange of alleles
3
Q
Metaphase 1
A
- Tetrads (pairs of homologous chromosomes) move to centre and line up in homologous pairs
- Spindle fibres attach to centromeres of each chromosome
4
Q
Anaphase 1
A
- Sister chromatids seperate together moving to opposite poles of cell
5
Q
Telophase 1
A
- Chromosomes decondense and nuclear envelop reforms
6
Q
Cytokinesis 1
A
- Cell divides into two daughter cells
- DNA is chromatin
7
Q
Differences in Meiosis 2
A
- SYNAPSIS DOES NOT OCCUR
- CROSSING OVER DOES NOT OCCUR
- CHROMOSOMES ALLIGN IN SINGLE FILE
