Meiosis 1 Flashcards
What does prophase 1 look like?
Chromosomes have a shortened end and thickened end, each chromosome visible as two chromatids held together by a centromere.
What happens during prophase 1?
The homologous pairs come together to form tetrods.
What happens during metaphase 1?
The chromosome pairs arrange themselves along the centre ‘equator’ of the cell. Spindle fibres attached to each homologous pair to contract to separate the homologous chromosomes.
What happens during anaphase 1?
The homologous chromosomes separate one to each end ‘pole’ of the cell.
What happens during telephone 1?
Two new cells form each with a different combination of alleles as a result of independent assortment.
