Influential or powerful individuals who create change
E.g., The conference was attended by industry movers and shakers, including CEOs and thought leaders.
Call the shots
To make important decisions or be in charge.
E.g., As the project manager, Sarah is the one who calls the shots and determines the project’s direction.
Steer clear of
To avoid or stay away from something.
E.g., Investors were advised to steer clear of volatile stocks during the economic downturn.”
Jump the gun
To act prematurely or hastily, before the appropriate time.
E.g., The company announced its new product launch, but some people argued they had jumped the gun without proper testing.
On the face of it
At first glance, without deeper analysis.
E.g., On the face of it, the company’s financials appear strong, but closer examination reveals underlying weaknesses.
Raise the bar
To set higher standards or expectations
E.g., We have been underperforming on sales this quarter. What can we do to raise the bar?
Not going to fly
Not acceptable or likely to succeed.
E.g., The proposed budget cuts are not going to fly with the employees, who are already frustrated
Fall short
To fail to meet expectations or standards
E.g., The last marketing campaign fell short, we need to raise the bar on this one.
