Ace Inhibitors
“-pril”
monitor K+ levels
SE: persistent non productive cough, angioedema, hypotension
Monitor bp and for angioedema
catopril should be taken 1 hour before meals
ARBs
“-sartan”
monitor K+ levels
SE: angioedema, hypotension
Monitor bp and for angioedema
Calcium Channel Blockers
Nifedipine, verapamil, diltiazem, amlodipine
contraindicated for clients with HF or bradycaria
no grapefruit juice
SE: consipation, reflex tachycardia, peripheral edema, toxicity
Beta blockers
“-olol”
contraindicated with bradycardia
SE: bradycardia, nasal stuffiness, AV block, bronchospasm
monitor for hypoglycemia
Vasodilators
Nitroglycerin
SE: dizziness, headache, hypotension
Cardiac glycosides
used for cardiac failure
digoxin
thiazide or loop diuretics increase risk for hypokalemia and toxicity
veramamil increases risk for toxicity
assess apical pulse for 1 min before giving
Digoxin toxicity: Anorexia, N/V, fatigue, weakness, diplopia, blurred vision, halos
