Cisplatin and ADR

ADR: ototoxicity
Atropine
anticholinergic (blocks parasympathetic)
decreases saliva before surgery and dilate pupils before eye exam

for acute alcohol withdrawal
DISULFIRAM
maintain alcohol ABSTINENCE
METHADONE and ADR
opioid withdrawal/maintenance
sedation is a common ADR.
client can develop a physical dependency w/ long-term use
VARENICLINE
for smoking cessation
Nitroglycerin
VASODILATOR
Treats angina/ chest pain
If it’s a patch, rotate location of patch every few days to avoid local skin irritation. There is a delayed onset of action ∴ won’t treat an ongoing episode of chest pain
Donepezil
Treats ALZEIMERS
Can improve cognitive functioning in earlier stages of ALZ
Spironolactone and ADRs
Potassium SPARING diuretic; derived from STEROIDS
Can cause adverse endocrine effects like gynecomastia, impotence in men, and irregular menses
Ginkgo biloba
BLOOD THINNER/ ANTICOAG
Don’t take with other anticoags like NSAIDs or clopidogrel
Risperidone
2nd-gen ANTIPSYCHOTIC
All 2nd-gen antipsychotic ADRs = diabetes, weight gain, and dyslipidemia
Monitor blood sugar
Sumatriptan and ADRs
treats MIGRAINE & CLUSTER HAs
ADR = chest pressure and heavy arms
Phenytoin
ANTICONVULSANT & PREVENTS SEIZURES
ADRs = cardiac dysrhythmias (cardiac monitoring required!!!), bradycardia, hypotension
Lithium
MOOD STABILIZER
Evaluating effectiveness: decreased aggression and impulsivity
Rifampin
ABX FOR TB
ADR = red-tinged urine, saliva, and tears
