What were the crusades?
A battle between Europeans and the Middle East
Christians and non Christians being Muslims
was fought on holy land
What were some of the reasons that historians suggest contributed to the fall of Rome ?
Because the empire was simply to big to survive ,Knights and soldiers couldn’t defend such a big space. Most were Christians and didn’t want to kill. As well as infighting which weakened the society
King / Monarch
Had privileges of the land
Noble / Lord-
Took land from the king and gave it to the knight in return for the knights to fight for the king
Clergy/Knight
The knight revived land from the lord . In return would have to fight for the king
Peasents/Serfs
Worked on the farm and payed their taxes to the monarch in form of crops.
What technology was developed that allowed knights to ride on horses ?
A more built up seat to give the rider greater security in the saddle greater balance which allowed the knight to use a sword more efficiently .
Explain two things a king or Lord would need to think about when choosing a location for a castle ?
Near a River which would give them protection, on a hill and close to crops to feed the soldiers inside the castle
What are Siege Weapons
Battering ram- A battering ram was used to knock down draw bridges
catapult- was used for launching objects
Cannons - was used for firing cannon balls
Explain 3 ways an army might choose to attack a castle
Attack the drawbridge
throw disease animals over the walls to infect the soldiers that way by the time they attacked some were already dead
burn the castle
What were symptoms of the Black Death ?
Coughing Blood
boils
skin would turn black
bleeding from mouth, ears and nose
