What did the church set up for crimes? what for?
The church set up a church courts for people who are not following church rites.
Facts about Outlaws?
They threatened their victims with arson, and extort money or goods in return for not burning homes down.
Outlaws regularly used violence, including threatening victims with a knife or simply killing the victim before robbing them.
Approximately 10% of murder victims were killed during robberies.
What was outlaws favourite targets? Why?
There favourite targets was churches because they contained valuable ornaments made of silver and gold.
What was a person called if they don’t attend court? What did they lose?
They were known as an outlaw. An outlaw no longer had protection of the law and could be killed by anyone as punishment.
What was a immortal crime?
Such as sex outside marriage became a crime.
What did the church not have the power to do in their court?
Impose the death penalty,so people learnt a passage of the Bible off by heart to claim ‘benefit of the clergy’
