Any method used to try and cure the illness.
Prevention
Actions taken to avoid being ill.
Hippocrates
Ancient Greek doctor who developed the 4 humour theory.
4 Humours
Theory where the body was thought to be made up of 4 fluids: Phlegm, Black Bile, Blood and Yellow Bile.
Hippocratic Oath
An oath taken by doctors promising that they will do ‘ No harm’.
Galen
Most famous Roman Doctor. Developed the Four Humour theory into the idea of opposites.
Anatomy
The study of the body - how organs , nerves etc. work
Miasma
The theory that illness was caused by bad air.
Trepanning
The practice of cutting a hole in the skill to ‘release evil spirits’
Tithe
A 10 % tax of your income which would go directly to the church.
Catholic Church
The only branch of Christianity of the time, and the most powerful organisation. Based in Rome.
