Medieval schools began to appear in Western Europe. This taught me and women. This means that more people were more likely to have knowledge on different techniques to use in surgery and when using medicine.

A
Most people were educated and taught in church institutions.
Many people believed that illness was a punishment for sins.

Why was medicine dominated by the four humours?
A
Doctors based their diagnostics around the four humours (yellow bile, black bile, phlegm and blood)
People who could treat diseases but have no idea of the theory were not highly rated.
