Feudalism
The social system where the nobility held lands in exchange for military service, and a share of produce from peasants.
Lords
Vassals to the King and provide soldiers and horses.
King
Owned the land, gave plots of land to Lords called manors.
Knights
The lords give lands called fiefs, in return knights fight as soldiers and demonstrate fealty. They would need to pay homage.
Peasants
Peasants farmed the lands for lords and knights, in return for protection. Serfs were the poorest of peasants.
Manorialism
A system based around self-sufficient farming estates, where lords and peasants live off the land together.
Self-sufficient
To operate independantly.
Knighthood
Chivalry - stand up for what is right
2 ways of becoming a knight
1. brave during battle
2. Hard work during training for fitness, horse riding and fighting skills.
