Describe how the Black Death spread to Europe.
Fleas biting the rats and rats getting on the ship and traveling to Europe. Once in the towns hygiene was a factor. Many people didn’t take baths daily or wash their hands this lead to the plague spreading even more
The Hierarchy structure in Feudalism. Describe
Lords- high ranking noble who had power over others
Vassal- low ranking noble who served a lord
Serf- peasants who worked for the lord for very little money
Knights- armed warriors who fought on horseback for the lord
What did William the Conqueror do once he was in power?
Wrote the Domesday Book
Took a census to determine how to tax the people
How did William the Conqueror gain control of England?
He and his army of Norman knights landed in England. He was able to defeat King Harold at the Battle of the Hastings and was crowned king of England
How did the crusades start? What were the crusades like?
The started because European Christians wanted to take back the holy land in the Middle East. These were a series of holy wars against the Muslim Turks
What was the Magna Carta? How did I️t impact England?
Basically a constitution for England. I️t limited the Kings power and tried to separate the church and state
What was religion like during the Middle Ages?
New religious orders happened.

The Catholic Church started to have a great deal of power and wealth during this time.
What was architecture like during the Middle Ages?
Cathedrals
What was literature like during the Middle Ages?
I️t was written in everyday language.

What were universities like during the Middle Ages?
Students learned about music, grammar, public speaking, arithmetic, and theology
I️t took 4-6 years to get a bachelors degree and about 10 to get you masters
How did the Black Death impact Europe?
I️t killed nearly 25 million people wiping out 1/3 of the population

She was a French peasant girl
Helped the French army defeat the English army
She was burned at the stake because they claimed she was a witch
She became a French national hero
