Who were the barbarians?
The barbarians were any people that invaded the Roman empire, they were called this because they were uncivilised even by standards back then
Role of women and children in feudal society
Women would keep the house clean, cook, make clothes, raise the kids, look after small animals and livestock and train the female kids in these ways.
Kids would help the women with house work and the males would be trained how to do what your father does, such as farming, tanning, blacksmithing ect.
Daily life of a peasant
A male peasant would wake up, eat, go and do their job or work for the king for a majority of the day, then go home, sleep and wake up early to do the same thing the next day
Medieval armour and weapon
Weapons; Swords, lance, rapière, pike, spear, bow and arrow, catapult or trebuchet, sythe, battering ram
Armour;
Early 1100: chainlink armour, kite shaped shield, cone shaped helmet
Late 1100: Round helmet, coat worn over chainlink, chainmail covers feet, neck and hands
1300: Bascinet helmets with lift up visor, has iron plates, shield is smaller
1400: armour is full iron plates, and is more flexible. Lighter helmets and no more need for shield
Why were crusades
The crusades were fought because Rome wanted to take control of the holy land (now Palestine) which was then controlled by muslims. A common battle cry during the crusades was deus vult, which meant ‘gods will’
There were two expeditions. One led by peasants (Walter the Penniless) which failed as of disorganisation. The other one led by knights succeeded.
Types of feudal jobs
Servant, serf, armourer, artist, miller, barber, baker, carpenter, herbalist.
Importance of Popes and kings
Popes were the rulers and main governing bodies of the catholic church
The kings were the rulers of the land
Influences of rome
Roman numerals, months, colosseum, aqueducts, bath
Castle
The castle was the place where the king lived, it was also the center of defence against invaders for the village. They were made of stone or wood, and had a moat around them
