What is an Allegory?
A symbolic narrative.
What is a Satire?
Satire is a way of making fun of people by using silly or exaggerated language.
What is a Breton lai?
Similar to Romance except shorter and more unified.
What is a Fabliau?
Comic story often obscene and satirical. Character are middle class.
What is an Exemplum?
A story that teaches a moral lesson.
What battle traditionally begins the Medieval time period?
Battle of Hastings in 1066
What resulted from the Norman Invasion?
French traditions introduced to the English.
What political system was introduced during this time period?
Feudal System
What is the Feudal System
A highly organized political system in which the King has owns all the land.
What were the Crusades?
People traveling to far off lands to bring back stuff.
What two famous universities were founded during this time period?
Oxford and Cambridge
What was Chivalry?
A code of conduct associated with the medieval institution of knighthood.
What was Courtly Love?
A medieval European literary conception of love that emphasized nobility and chivalry. Medieval literature is filled with examples of knights setting out on adventures and performing various services for ladies because of their “courtly love.”
