Public Health Act of 1848
❖Each town could appoint a Medical Officer of Health.
❖A general Board of Health could be set up, and towns would be allowed to create their own local boards of health.
❖Rubbish removals could be organised, and a sewer system built.
❖People should have access to clean water.
❖The terms of the Act were only temporary.
❖The Act was voluntary.
Sanitary Act of 1866
The Sanitary Act of 1866 required towns to appoint inspectors to check on water supplies and drainage.
The Public Health Act of 1875
The second P.H Act was passed as the gov’ began to realise that p.h was their responsibility.
❖There must be provision of clean water and proper disposal of rubbish and sewage.
❖Medical Officers of Health should be appointed in every area.
❖There were standards for new housing, and lodging houses should be checked
Was compulsory - local authorities were forced to carry out the improvements.
