Who are responsible for destroying medication?

How was the destruction of the medication recorded?
- Persons who destroyed the Medication should sign the records to be retained for at least 3 years.

- The prescription number and name of the pharmacy

When shall the facility Staff be permitted to assist the residents with PRN Self-medication w/o restriction?
If the residents physician has stated in writing that the resident is able to determine and communicate the need for a prescription or non prescription PRN medication.

-Shearing or breaking of contaminated needles is prohibited.
-Contaminated needles shall not be bent or recapped.
-Waste containers shall not be opened or emptied manually.
Contaminated needles shall be placed in appropriate container with a labeled as BIOHAZARDOUS WASTE OR SHARPS WASTE.
