Medications Flashcards
Cyclosporine toxicity
Mech: blocks IL-2 Renal HTN Disc edema Gingival hyperplasia
Alternative to durezol for tx of hypotony
Ibopamine- nonselective dopaminergic medication that increases aqueous production approximately four-fold. (Only available in Europe)
- Increases IOP by 2 mmHg for approximately 8 hours.
Gancyclovir Toxicity
Myelosuppression (neutropenia, thrombocytopenia)
Foscarnet Toxicity
Nephrotoxic
Anti-cytokine drugs
ex: etanercept, infliximab
demyelinating disease and optic neuritis
Cyclophosphamide
hemorrhagic cystitis (po > IV), myelosuppression (less commonly bladder ca and sterility)
Prevent with hydration
Cidofovir
hypotony (CB atrophy)
uveitis (1 wk p last infusion) & IMMUNE RECOVERY UVEITIS
renal
Reduce side FX c probenecid and hydration
MTX mechanism
Inhibits DHFR –> prevents DNA replication
Anti Inflammatory effects through release of adenosine
Tox: BM suppression, hepatotoxic and renal tox
Side FX: GI upset, stomatitis –> check CBC/LFTs monthly
TNF inhibitor
Demyelinating dz
Name examples of
a. IL-2 modulators
b. alkylating agents
c. Cytotoxic antimetabolite
a. cyclosporine, FK-507
b. chlorambucil, cyclophosphamide
c. MTX, azathioprine
Intermediate uveitis tx and c/I
Most common: cyclosporine, MTX
Infliximab c/i in pts c MS b/c may worsen dz
Infliximab side FX
drug-induced lupus, vascular thromboses, CHF, demyelinating dz Low dose of MTX may prevent development of drug-induced lupus.
Azathioprine mechanism and side FX
Purine analog –> 6 MP
Leukopenia, hepatotoxic, ? inc risk of heme malig
Mycophenolate
GI upset, leukopenia and RBc aplasia, ?inc risk of heme ca, PML
Polyenes
Ampho, natamycin
Bind ergosterol
Azoles
Inhibit ergosterole synthesis
Miconazole, ketoconazole, clotrimazole, itra-, flu-
Flucytosine
Converted to 5-FU
