Methergine (Metheylergonovine Maleate)

A

Stimulates uterine contraction.

2mg IM q 2-4 hrs p expulsion of the placenta. Onset in 2-5 min.
2mg PO 3-4 X day up to 7 days. Onset 5-10 min.

CONTRA: Pregnancy, hypersensitivity, preeclampsia, hypertension, lactation.

CAUTION: in hepatic or renal disease, cardiac disease, and sepsis.
