major BB SE
- worsening HF

- high degree AV block

contraindications w/ BB and CCB
- *NEVER GIVE BB W/ COCAINE USE!!

coumadin - sig interactions
ANTIBIOTICS! esp amoxicillin, clarithromycin, bactrim, norfloxacin - most w/in 1st 3 days of antibiotics - risk of OVERCOAGULATION!
FQ side effects / diet interaactions
- QT prolongation, tendinitis, teratogenic!
- avoid w/ calcium, iron, aluminum, magnesium products - avoid 6 hours before or 2 hours after taking the med
meds for BPH…
2 main categories - alpha 1 antagonist (doxazosin, terazosin, tamsulosin - flomax) which block receptors to relax smooth muscle and 5 alpha reductase inhibitors (finasteride) which decrease DHT to testosterone conversion
problem w/ finasteride…
falsely lowers PSA levels!
mildly obese patient with erythematous, macerated rash that is wet and itchy in the intertriginous areas, no lymphadenopathy…dx?
CANDIDIASIS!!!
- look for satellite lesions!!
- w/ secondary syphilis often have nontender generalized lymphadenopathy
patient with intermittent sharp stabbing back pain, worse w/ coughing and sneezing w/ viral illness suggests? tx?
pleuritis! indomethacin and cough suppressant
auer rod?
AML!
helmet cells?
DIC
teardrop cells?
THALASEMIA!
AML pres
- common in 60s, fever, fatigue, bleeding w/ hx chem or radiation exposure
- CBC: pancytopenia and AUER RODS!( cytoplasmic inclusion bodies)
