Types and characteristics of pain (5)
Somatic: sharp, localised
Visceral: cramps, radiates sometimes
Neuropathic: burning, tingling, radiating
Referred: somewhere else e.g. Back pain from pancreatitis
Breakthrough: pain on top of morphine covered pain
COX-1 and COX-2
House keeping of clotting, stomach lining, kidney function. Blocking these may lead to bleeds and altered blood flow to kidneys
COX 2 is always around but unregulated when there is inflammation
Difference in diabetes
Type one- autoimmune destroying beta cells in pancreas. No insulin or very minimal insulin
Type two, worn out insulin, needs to supplement
Glycoslated haemoglobin
When glucose is in excess it attaches to haemoglobin. Should have less than 7%.
