A

Taken by mouth and swallowed, come in a liquid, syrup, powder, tablet, or capsule form. Absorbed: into the bloodstream through the lining of the stomach and intestine. The slowest route for medication to reach the cells of the body.

How is Sublingual medication administered and absorbed?

A

Placed under the tongue where it dissolves in the saliva. Absorbed: Through the mucous membrane that makes up the lining of the mouth, clients should not swallow the tablet, eat, or drink until all of the medication is dissolved. The medication is absorbed faster than through the oral route.

A

Applying medication directly to the skin or mucous membrane. Designed to soothe irritated tissues, and prevent or cure local infections. Come in the form of creams, lotions, ointments, liquids, powders, patches, and ear and eye drops.
