NG meds
-measure tip of nose…ear lobe…bottom of xiphoid process
- give 1 medication at a time
- flush with 30ml by GRAVITY not plunger
patch
-12 hrs on..12 hrs off
-alternate sites
-clean skin and make sure its dry
-wear gloves
-never touch medication
-label with:
-date
-time
initals
- take vitals signs before giving
- hold if pulse is less than 60 for nitroglycerin
- 5 mins after administering check vials
-take VS
-put on gloves
-remove old patch
-label patch with
date

-apply medication to patch
-apply to pt medication side down directly to DRY skin
-5 mins after take VS
-rotate sites
ophthalmic administration (eye meds)
DROPS
- pull lower lip down
- have pt look up
- install medication into conjuctiva
- release eye lid
- have pt blink
- massage canthus for 1 min
OINTMENT -lay thin layer of med to conjunctiva from inner canthus to outter -avoid tube touching eye -release eye lid -roll eyes behind closed eyes -massage canthus for 1 min
- drops before oinment
- 5 mins apart
- put pressure on inner canthus for 1 min after each administration
ear drops
- pt turn head to unaffected side
- affected ear facing up
- instill drops
- massage traus for 1 min after each administraton
ADULT: (4yrs - above)
pull ear BACK and UP
CHILDREN: (0 - 3 yrs)
pull ear back and down
inhaler
-put inhaler together and shake
-remove cap from mouth piece
-hold canister 1 1/2 -2 inches in front of mouth
do not place mouth piece in mouth with lips closed
around it
-exhale gently
-inhale and press canister to release medication
-close your mouth and hold for 10 secs
-breath normal
-if 2 puffs are needed wait 5 mins apart
-RINSE MOUTH to wash away medication to
PREVENT FUNGAL INFECTION
nasal drops
ETHMOID/SPHENOID SINUS
- lie on back
- hyperextend head
- instill drops
MAXILLARY/FRONTAL SINUS
- lie on back
- turn head toward AFFECTED NASAL
- instill drops
NASAL CONGESTION
- lie on back
- head slightly toward AFFECTED SIDE
- aim dropper towards eyes
nasal spray
- sitting down
- clean nose
- block unaffected nasal
- spray meds
- keep head down
vaginal administration
- wash hands
- remove from wrapping
- place suppository in applicator
- lie on back with knees bent or standing with feet spread a few inches apart
- insert applicator into vagina
- and squeeze medicaation
- remove application
- wash hands
rectal suppository
-open
-apply K-Y JELLY to suppository
-position pt LEFT SIMS
-insert medication 2-4 inches with 1 finger
-position pt to RIGHT SIDE
to avoid medication from coming out

- withdraw with needle UPSIDE DOWN
- CHANGE needle
- give med

- mix medication (shake)
- draw up meds

-do not need to add air
intradermal injection

- QUANTEFERON GOLD TEST
-by INNER ELBOW (LIGHTER SIDE) -bevel facing up -CREATE a BUBBLE (wheal, bleb) -have pt come back in 48-72hrs for results
-10mm and up = NORMAL
-5mm and up = EXPOSED
in immuno compromised and AIDS pt
-15mm = kids
-if reading is positive pt must have X-RAY done
-x-ray will revieal SPOTTING in LUNGS if positive
(grandular)
-pt will need to go for AFB
(acid fast bacili)
AFB:
- need 3 sputum collections
- done in the MORNING
- 3 CONSECUTIVE days
- if 2 test are positive = TB
- if 2 are negative = negative
subcutaneous injecton (SUB-Q)
-90 degrees
-inject in sub Q layer
(fatter layer under skin)
needle - 3/8 = 90 degrees
needle - 5/8 = 45 degrees
use 26 or 27 gauge needle
