  • take vitals signs before giving
    • hold if pulse is less than 60 for nitroglycerin

A

DROPS

  • pull lower lip down
  • have pt look up
  • install medication into conjuctiva
  • release eye lid
  • have pt blink
  • massage canthus for 1 min
OINTMENT
-lay thin layer of med to conjunctiva 
   from inner canthus to outter
-avoid tube touching eye
-release eye lid
-roll eyes behind closed eyes
-massage canthus for 1 min
  • drops before oinment
  • 5 mins apart
  • put pressure on inner canthus for 1 min after each administration

A

-put inhaler together and shake
-remove cap from mouth piece
-hold canister 1 1/2 -2 inches in front of mouth
do not place mouth piece in mouth with lips closed
around it
-exhale gently
-inhale and press canister to release medication
-close your mouth and hold for 10 secs
-breath normal

-if 2 puffs are needed wait 5 mins apart
-RINSE MOUTH to wash away medication to
PREVENT FUNGAL INFECTION

-bevel facing up
-CREATE a BUBBLE
   (wheal, bleb)
-have pt come back in 48-72hrs for results

-10mm and up = NORMAL
-5mm and up = EXPOSED
in immuno compromised and AIDS pt
-15mm = kids

-if reading is positive pt must have X-RAY done
-x-ray will revieal SPOTTING in LUNGS if positive
(grandular)
-pt will need to go for AFB
(acid fast bacili)

AFB:

  • need 3 sputum collections
  • done in the MORNING
  • 3 CONSECUTIVE days
  • if 2 test are positive = TB
  • if 2 are negative = negative
