Medicare
Australia’s health care insurance scheme that provides essential medical services to Australian citizens, permanent residents and citizens of countries with reciprocal agreements such as Papua New Guinea.
Medicare Safety Net
Individuals whom require frequent medical services are Procter by this Medicare subsection. This program provides discounted services once surpassing a certain threshold
Medicare Levy
Medicare Levy refers to the 2% extra costs able Australian citizens pay in there general taxes that help fund Medicare.
Medicare Levy Surcharge
An additional 1-1.5% high income earners (whom do not have private hospital insurance) pay in their general taxes.
Bulk Billing
When the doctor or specialist charges only the schedule fee. The payment is claimed directly from Medicare so there are no out-of-pockets expenses for the patients.
Schedule Fee
The amount that Medicare contributes towards certain consolations and treatments. The government decides what each item is worth and that is what Medicare pays.
PBS (Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme)
PBS is a program of the Australian Government that subsidies prescription medications for Australian citizens and permeant residents, as well as international visitors covered by a reciprocal health care agreement.
PBS Safety Net
For individuals whom require regular medications, after surpassing a certain threshold are protected by this safety net. This safety net provided discounts and lower subsidizations for these families.
