Holistic
Not just an individual, they are mind, body and spirit (unique)
Spiritual
relating to or affecting the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things.
Normal flora
Bacteria that are always present; kept under control by other flora
Nosocomial Infection
Health care related infections (MRSA, C-diff)
Asepsis
Absence of bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms
Transfer
Moving a client from one surface to another
Lift
Moving a client from one location to another - usually referring to a person who can’t bear weight
Reposition
Moving on same surface or between 2 surfaces of equal height
Local infection
Limited to a particular part of body; easier to treat
Systemic infection
Infection has spread from origin site to affect more systems
Direct contact transmission
Requires direct contact from person to person
Indirect contact transmission
Transfer from reservoir to intermediate inanimate object then to recipient (ie: door handle)
BP
Blood pressure - force of blood pushing against side of BV wall
Vital signs
Body temperature. Heart Rate or Pulse. Respiratory rate. Blood pressure. Oxygen Saturation
Vertebrae
each of the series of small bones forming the backbone, having several projections for articulation and muscle attachment, and a hole through which the spinal cord passes.
Musculoskeletal
Relating to or denoting the musculature and skeleton together
Bariatric
branch of medicine that deals with the causes, prevention, and treatment of obesity.
Hygiene
conditions or practices conducive to maintaining health and preventing disease, especially through cleanliness.
Accountability
acknowledgment and assumption of responsibility for actions
Infection
invasion and multiplication of microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, and parasites that are not normally present within the body
Pathogen
a bacterium, virus, or other microorganism that can cause disease
HTN
Hypertension - abnormally high blood pressure
