What is Aetiology?
The cause, set of causes of a disease or condition
Aetiology is essential in understanding disease mechanisms.
Define Denudation.
Refers to the loss of surface layers, such as the epithelium
Denudation can occur due to various factors including injury or disease.
What is Erosion?
Breakdown of outer layers of the skin
Erosion can result from friction, pressure, or inflammatory conditions.
What does Erythema indicate?
Redness of the skin that occurs due to injury, infection or inflammation
Erythema is often a sign of underlying pathology.
What is the Gluteal Cleft?
Posterior deep midline groove in the gluteal region, separating the two glutes from each other and extending downwards from the third
The gluteal cleft is also referred to as the intergluteal cleft.
Define Lesions.
Area of abnormal or damaged tissue caused by injury, infection, or disease
Lesions can vary in appearance and severity.
What is Maceration?
Softening and whitening of skin that is kept constantly wet
Maceration can lead to skin breakdown if not managed properly.
What are Occlusive containment products?
Diapers or plasticised undergarments
These products are used to manage incontinence and protect the skin.
What are Papules?
Type of skin lesion that is solid or cystic raised spot on the skin that is less than 1cm wide
Papules can be a sign of various dermatological conditions.
Define Pustules.
A type of pimple that is larger than whiteheads and blackheads that contain yellowish pus
Pustules are often associated with inflammatory skin conditions.
What are Vesicles?
Thin-walled sac filled with a fluid, usually clear and small
Vesicles can be indicative of viral infections or allergic reactions.
