Toward the front or head of animal (commonly used in reference to an x-ray)
Caudal
Toward the back or tail of the animal (commonly used in reference to an x-ray)
Anterior
directed toward the front (typically used to refer to internal organs or ligaments)
Posterior
directed toward the back (typically used to refer to internal organs or ligaments)
Medal
directed toward the middle
Lateral
directed toward the outside of the animal (If asked to place animal in lateral recumbent position, it means laying on it’s side away from the mid-line) r
Dorsal
directed toward the back (used during exam or x-ray. Opposite of ventral.
Ventral
directing toward the underside or the belly of the animal. Opposite of dorsal.
Proximal
closer to the origin (terms used during a procedure, relating to a cut/wound)
Distal
away from the origin (terms used during a procedure, relating to a cut/wound)
Brady-
slow (i.e. bradycardia - a slow heart beat)
