medical imaging Flashcards
1
Q
five types of medical imaging
A
x ray, computer tomography, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, MRI
2
Q
what does x ray tube use?
A
anode and cathode
3
Q
how does x ray tube work?
A
it is a circuit. electrons hit target and interact with outer shell tungsten electrons and produce radiation
4
Q
how does x ray differentiate body parts?
A
body parts attenuate different amounts of photons, which cause different degree of blackening of the film
5
Q
IMPORTANT: x ray densities in order
A
1 air
- fat
- water (soft tissue)
- bone
- metal
6
Q
how are most fractures identified
A
cortical interruption
7
Q
what contrast materials can we use for x ray?
A
iodinated contrast similar to bone density. barium contrast similar to metal density.
