Definition of Universal Procedures
The procedures designed protect caregivers and observers from potential disease transmission by treating all blood and bodily fluid as if they were infectious.

Medical Care
Encompasses the administration of:
- Rescue Breathing
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Airway Obstruction Procedures
- First Aid
On the 701 A/C, who always provides medical care?
The FA who encounters the Medical Emergency first.
Disposal procedures.
- Remove gloves / mask so that your skin only comes in
contact with the inside of the glove. - Place all used equipment in to sick sack and seal bag.
- Place sick sack in lab trash bin.
- Dispose of trash at next station.
Sharp’s Shuttle Kit Use
- Notify CA.
- Apply Universal Precautions.
- Retrieve Sharps Shuttle Kit. Don latex gloves. Use extreme caution, as these gloves are not puncture-proof.
- Take Sharps Shuttle Kit to the needle.
- Hold Sharps Shuttle on side. Place hypodermic needle into container, needle end down. Do NOT transfer possession: allow individual who administered injection to place needle into Sharps Shuttle.
- Snap lid on Sharps Shuttle shut.
- Place Sharps Shuttle into sick sack. Place closed sick sack into red Biohazard Disposable Bag.
- Follow Disposal Procedures.
- Notify CA that Sharps Shuttle Kit has been used. Also notify Customer Service Agent if on ground.
Each (701) FAK must contain at least the following approved contents:
2 Adhesive Tape 20 Antiseptic Swabs 10 Ammonia Inhalants 8 Bandage Compresses, 4" 5 Triangular Bandage Compresses 4 Roller Bandage, 4" 16 Adhesive Bandage Compresses, 1" 1 Bandage Scissors 1 Arm Splint, non-inflatable 1 Leg Splint, non-inflatable 1 Pair of Latex Gloves
Each (900) FAK must contain at least the following approved contents:

Who can use the PSA EMK?
A licensed medical professional (or Flight Attendant, or emergency caregiver under the direction of a MedLInk physician) may use the Emergency Medical Kit, EMK.

1 - 0.9% Normal Saline, 500 ml.
1 ea. - IV Catheters: 18g, 20g, 22g
4 - Non-latex gloves
ORANGE - MEDICATIONS
4 - Acetaminophen tablets 325mg (analgesic)
4 - Aspirin tablets 325mg
4 - Diphenhydramine HCI 25 mg tablets(antihistamine)
25 - Nitroglycerin tablets 0.4mg
1 - Albuterol inhalation bronchodilator 17g
2 - Diphenhydramine
BLUE - AIRWAY
List Universal Procedures
- Don latex gloves
- Don Microshield Rescue Breather
- Don Face Mask / Eye shield when administering
medical care - Don Surgical Mask when airborne disease is
suspected.
5 Move passengers away from affected area fluids and
cover with a blanket or trash bags. Don not attempt
to clean up fluids. - Wash hands immediately, utilizing antibacterial hand
sanitizer. Upon arrival at destination, wash hands
thoroughly with soap and warm water.

- First Aid Kit (FAK)
- Infection Control Kit (ICK)
- Emergency Medical Kit (EMK)
- Portable Oxygen Bottle (POB)
- Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
Medical Care Guidelines
- Check the scene for safety.
- Determine if there is a medical professional on board
- Notify CA
- Obtain necessary Medical Equipment
- Apply Universal Precautions
- Assess the nature of the illness
- Seek permission before giving care
- Administer medical care
- If necessary, assign ABP to stay with passenger
- Update the CA of passenger condition
- Complete Online Operations Report
Rescue Breathing
Infant /child - 1 breath every 3 seconds
Adult - 1 breath every 5 seconds
