What are the attachments, actions and innervation of the adductor Magnus ?

A
  • Largest muscle in the medial component of the thigh.
  • Can be split into the adductor part and hamstring part
  • Origin : Adductor part - inferior rami of pubis and rami of ischium. / hamstring part - ischial tuberosity
  • Insert : Adductor part - linea aspera / hamstring part - adductor tubercle and medial supracondylar line.
  • Actions : Both adduct the thigh / adductor part flexes thigh and hamstring part extends the thigh
  • Innervation : adductor part obturator nerve L2-L4 and hamstring part tibial portion of the sciatic nerve L4-S3.

  • Origin : membrane of the obturator foramen and adjacent bones.
  • Insert : posterior greater trochanter
  • Actions : Adduction and lateral rotation of the thigh
  • Innervation : Obturator nerve L2 - L4.
