What are conventions? (2 main ideas)
Established rules or understandings used while making media products.
What is a polysemic?
A sign or message that can have multiple different meanings
What are semiotics and what is the study of it called?
The use and study of signs, sign systems, and what they mean. This is also known as semiology
What is continuity and what can be used to affect it?
Suggests continuous action with respect to angles, props, and position of actors
What is desaturation and what is it used for?
Colours are drained from the shot so that the colours appear paler and can be used to convey emotions
What is a mix?
The image on the screen fades away while the current scene slowly fades in
What is continuity editing?(3 main aspects)
Most common way of mainstream products. Aim is to create a sense of continuous uninterrupted story. Keeps audience’s attention on the story
What is a shot reverse shot and what is it used to portray?
When a character is looking at another character off screen and the other is looking back and it is used to convey a conversation
Shots used to get the viewer’s attention on details that they might have missed and adds depth to the story
Extreme tight shot
A shot that redirects our attention
Tilt
POV
A shot used to put the viewer in the perspective of the character’s view
Give an example of diegetic sound in movies
Dialogue, Car Engine, things within the universe of the movie.
